African-American Heritage Figurine: School Girls
It"s a sunny warm day on a cut stone path near the lawn where a strap-leaved plant blooms with dainty white blossoms.  A charming setting  where two young girls (sisters?  friends?)  wait together to go to or are returning  from school as can be inferred from the fat bookbag carried by the bigger girl and the book held by the other.  There are ruffles around sleeves and collars.  Full white petticoats peek out from lavishly gathered dresses (what! no jeans and t-shirts??!)  Pink is the favorite color:  it is thecolor of the ribbon that tie the hair puffs of the little girl and the ribbon belt at the back of her dress;  lovely pink is the color of the ribbon around the straw hat of the older girl.  It is one of the colors along with red and blue that form the circulet of flowers that adorn her hair bun.  Hand painted polyresin, imported, ca 2006.
