African-American Lifestyle Figurines: Boy and Girl Book Lovers
What comes to mind when looking at these young readers is the book lovers perpetual complaint, "So many books, so little time!"  Better yet, if each one was accompanied by a conversation bubble, it's easy to imagine the girl saying, "Chapter One.  My two favorite words" and the boy saying, "Wait until I finish this chapter!"  The boy ears long cream trousers, a burgundy buttoned-down vest over a blue and white horizontal striped T-shirt.  His semi-formal dress is finished with classic black-and-white saddle shoes.  The girl is much more casually dressed in blue buttoned bib overalls with a rich red short-sleeved blouse that matches her laced-up sneakers.  Her neat braids are held with colorful hair ornaments.  These figurines are extremely well modeled and painted.  Small details such as ears, eyes, noses, mouths and hands are very naturalistic.  Each article of clothing drapes, folds and bunches realistically at stress points.  Some details are unexpected, such as the boy's shoe is shaped according to foot and the sole has slip-resistant treads.  The pair is included in one set.  Hand painted resin, imported from Thailand, ca 2006.
